Christmas Wedding at Wildberry Farm

Despite of the pouring rain all day long, this wedding was Truly a Christmas Wonderland. We asked Emilee and Drew to share her experience and what did go into the wedding preparation.

Q: How did you meet? Tell us about the proposal.

A: Drew and I met at Newspring Church. We had known each other for a while but did not start dating until Aug 11, 2017. He proposed one year later on Aug 12, 2018. Throughout the year he had begun writing a letter to me that he would then give to me on the day he proposed. He read me the last letter and told me I could open two per week until we got married. They included his feelings throughout our relationship from our first fight to our most romantic moments. He brought me to a beautiful spot where he had a table set up with candles and pictures of us. He had handmade paper flowers and had them sitting everywhere. After the proposal, we went to eat where we met our closest friends and family. He talked to them about how special they were to all of us and gave each person one of the flowers he had made to remember our proposal. It was perfect, and the best part was I got to make that feeling last throughout our engagement because I got to keep opening letters until the day we said I do.

Q: Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration behind your day? Did you have a specific theme, style or color palette? Did you incorporate any cultural or religious traditions in any part of your day?

A: We wanted our day to be like walking into an elegant, Christmas party. We wanted everyone to be put in the Christmas spirit as soon as they walked in. We did this by adding details with the colors red, gold, and green. The bridesmaids dresses are red and we used lots of Christmas greenery with red berries and white roses.

Q: Let’s talk wedding decor. How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception? Was any part of the decor DIY?

A: I wanted our wedding to have a wall of Christmas trees. I wanted it to glow and sparkle as you walked in. We placed Christmas trees along the back wall of the barn with nothing on them other than lights. We then put the dessert table in front of it as a focal point. I wanted people to have different options for desserts and enjoy some of our favorite desserts. We included a hot chocolate/apple cider bar so people could warm up. We added different toppings for the drinks. We also folded the napkins to make a pocket and placed a cinnamon stick and piece of Christmas greenery at each table. We used live Christmas trees throughout the ceremony. I wanted to make sure that people not only saw Christmas but could smell, taste and feel Christmas in the air. We did a lot of DIY for our wedding. We made all of the signs except for one. We searched for the perfect furniture by going to antique shops, refinishing and creating something new with it. We did this with the sweetheart table, welcome table, unity table, hot choc bar, and many others.

Q: What were the florals like in your wedding? Did you use flowers in any of your design elements like the bridal bouquets, centerpieces or ceremony backdrop? Did they play an essential part in the overall style of your wedding?

A: I love Flowers, so they were a big part of my wedding. I believe Flowers can make or break a wedding. With that being said I wanted our wedding to be elegant and simple. I used Lots of Christmas trees with just lights. They were beautiful exactly how they were, and there was no need to add anything else to them. I included all kinds of local greenery and Christmas tree greenery to the bouquets and garland. Then, added different types of white roses and a few red berries. These red berries gave enough contrast with the color scheme that we had but did not compete with the roses. It all complimented each other very well. I also wanted it to be very free looking. I did not want a ball of flowers. I wanted natural and free florals. I used this in the arbor by making it a focal point to our ceremony. We used white rose petals down the side of the aisle.

Q: What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?

A: Walking down the aisle. Seeing my almost-husband at the end of a beautiful isle, watching everyone stand up and getting to see what we had planned for so long take place right in front of my eyes — the first look. I loved Our first look. I was Originally against doing a first look but decided because of it getting dark that it would be a good idea. I loved Every second of it, and so did Drew. We chose to include friends and family because we are very close with them and wanted to share our special moment with the people who love us most. It was wonderful. It gave us a few minutes alone before the ceremony and helped calm our nerves.

Q: Did you personalize the day in any way (food trucks, guest entertainment, etc.)? What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding?

A: We used small glass heart ornaments on two of the Christmas trees as you enter the barn as favors. We wanted people to have a little piece of Christmas from our wedding that they could take back to their home. I loved how personal our wedding was. From the ceremony to the reception we added personal touches such as having a dessert table that included Drew’s favorite 16 layer chocolate cake, made by someone local as well as my favorite macaroons. We also did our ceremony a little different by reading a letter that was one of the many letters Drew wrote to me during our first year of dating; this gave people a small glimpse of our relationship and journey together. We also used lots of local vendors for our wedding because we love being able to support small business and enjoy our town.
